Naoki Yasuda joined the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2014 and currently serves as the co-principal
Timpanist. Prior to this, he was the principal timpanist/percussionist of the Hyogo Performing Arts Center
Orchestra. He has also performed with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Lahti Symphony Orchestra,
NHK Symphony Orchestra, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa and the
Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra.
Born in Japan, Yasuda started playing percussion at the age of 12 and later earned his bachelor’s and master’s
degrees from the Kyoto City University ofArts. In 2009, he received the Aoyama MusicAward for New
Musician for his debut solo recital in Kyoto. As a grant recipient from theAoyama Music Foundation, he
studied timpani in Berlin, Vienna and Stockholm with Wieland Welzel, Michael Vladar and John Kapenekas.
Aside from performing, Yasuda has served as a guest percussion lecturer at the Kyoto City University of Arts.
He also teaches and gives master classes in Japan, Finland and South Korea.
