The PyeongChang Festival Orchestra (PFO) was established in 2018 and made its debut at the 15th Music in PyeongChang. The orchestra consists of mainly but not limited to Korean musicians who play for major orchestras around the world, and non-Korean musicians who are members of major orchestras in Korea. Their highly anticipated and widely acclaimed debut took place on July 28, 2018, when PFO performed Rachmaninov’s Piano Concert no. 2 and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony no. 4 under the baton of Dmitrij Kitajenko, former Chief Conductor of the KBS Symphony. They were praised as the only world class festival orchestra in Asia other than the Saito Kinen Orchestra in Japan, and were likened to the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.
